NLP Modal Operators
Do you have a set of negative rules that rule your life? That limits what you can do? These limiting beliefs are what we call Model Operators – the model of your world. What if you could change your rules so you believed you could succeed at anything you put your mind to? If this could happen, what would you do differently?
Now, I’m not saying you can do the impossible and walk through walls but you can give yourself the best chance of becoming the best you. Do you ever say to yourself one of the following examples or something similar?
- “I can’t run a marathon”
- “I will never lose weight”
- “It’s impossible to pass job interviews”
These examples are limiting beliefs – your beliefs that rule you. What is good is that once you are aware of your limiting beliefs you can change them, can’t you? To change your beliefs you have to change the words you use when talking about beliefs. A person saying “I can’t run a marathon” will now say “with training and commitment I can run a marathon”
Making a Change
Limitations in your life FEEL true because you will believe your beliefs can’t be changed. For some people it takes a near death experience to motivate them for change, but why wait that long when you can change now.
To change your beliefs you need to challenge them – breakdown the evidence that you have built up over the years:
- Who said I can’t run a marathon?
- What have I achieved that I thought I would originally fail at?
- How far can I run now, without any training?”
If you question your beliefs, your model operator – you will start to see cracks in that belief until the beliefs smashes ready to be replaced with a new positive belief.
