The government is planning to scrap the default retirement age in the UK from October 2011.
Under this new proposal, employers would no longer be allowed to dismiss staff when they reach the age of 65.
Currently, when an employee reaches the age of 65 an employer can force the employee to retire without paying any financial compensation. Employers have a mandatory requirement to hold a meeting 6 months before the employees 65th birthday. At the end of this meeting it is at the employer’s discretion...

£5.80 to £5.93 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
£4.83 to £4.92 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
£3.57 to £3.64 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
Apprentice for the first time will now be eligible for a minimum wage rate of £2.50 an hour
